Product Description
Extraordinarily rare letter written on White Star Line stationary. Mailed from Ismay, Imrie, and Co. to D. and C. MacIver (managing owners of Cunard), the letter concerns the setting up of official North Atlantic traffic lanes. It was written on May 16, 1873, just 45 days after the tragic loss of the ss Atlantic off Canada. Thus the issue of navigation and safe and official lanes for steamships was of extremely urgent and vital importance. Certainly, T.H. Ismay would have been behind the writing of this letter.
A document of great importance and interesting to boot. I can count on one hand this type of high-end documentation from the 19th century. Very good condition and sporting the maker water mark of Joynson 1872.
