Product Description
Picture it. Norfolk, VA. 1984. Famed ocean-liner memorabilia dealer Ken Schultz visits the ss United States shortly after the 1984 auction of her fittings. During his visit, this pair of running lights was removed personally by maritime author Mark Warren whom Schultz asked along for help.
As you can imagine, these navigation lights are one-of-a-kind items, and Schultz stated in his catalog that, as far as he knew, these were the only matched and fully documented pair of running lights to exist from any major ocean liner. I think that statement still stands. Over the years I have had and sold through Luxury Liner Row the port running light from the sunken White Star liner RMS Republic and the starboard running light from the RMS Olympic. But a matched pair? Never.
The port light is perfect, and the green starboard light has a tight crack in the glass. They are in original condition, having only been owned by one collector who purchased them directly from Schultz. Since they run on US electric standards, it should be a breeze to get them working again.
These were offered to the ss United States Conservancy as a donation, but they declined. So here is an amazing opportunity for one of you to acquire one of those spectacular items that will set your Big U collection apart from everyone else’s! Sold only as a pair, and easily two of the greatest items I have ever had the pleasure of selling!
