Product Description
A story was told by the late John Maxtone-Graham that the Duke and Duchess of Windsor were notorious skinflints when it came to tipping cash–instead giving crew members on the great liners autographed photos of themselves. The frames they were in became nicer as your rank went up. At the time the crew might have hoped for a substantial cash tip, but over time those photos have become much more valuable! The Windsors loved the great liners to the end of the era as the Duchess hated to fly (one can sympathize with those sentiments). So even as late as the 1970s, she sailed. This image was taken in November, 1965, as they board the ss United States, one of their favorite ships. The press image we are told in the blurb on the back is taken just after an eye operation for the Duke in the United States. It was his second to work on his eye difficulty.
