Product Description
Exquisite tea cup and saucer as used on board the ss Andrea Doria. Commonly known among collectors as the “Chinois” pattern, this style of china is decorated with many different Chinese scenes and is one of the most sought-after patterns of Italia china because of its close connection with the Andrea Doria from which a lot of identical pieces have been recovered. Both pieces made by Schonwald. Near-mint condition. No chips, cracks, or crazing, but has the tiniest spots on the blue rim of the cup.
This pattern was used in the afternoon tea service of the Andrea Doria and other ships in the Italian Line of steamers.
