Product Description
WOW! Amazingly hard-to-find deck plan for Cunard’s famous Carpathia, dated September, 1908, and listed as a “cabin plan.” Looking at the plan, it appears that first and second class were combined into one at some point, perhaps when she was put on the Hungarian service.
Carpathia was a small ship, as this plan proves, and it must have been extremely tough finding a space for all of Titanic’s survivors. Three of the richest women on board (Mrs. Astor, Mrs. Widener, and Mrs. Thayer) were all given berths in the captain’s cabin. Interestingly, the officers’ rooms are marked.
I doubt given the trauma and their grief many survivors reflected on this, but it is tough for me not to make comparisons between Carpathia and Titanic. What comparisons they make too! It is like night and day with Titanic being so huge and modern and Carpathia being a throwback to 19th century ships and quite cramped. I love being able to say that this item is in outstanding condition with only a couple of pin holes but no tears to the folds or edges. Measures about 18½” x 11”. Needless to say, this is one of the rarest items I have ever offered. For one of you, it will be a centerpiece in your collection.
