Product Description
What a cute and interesting item of United States Lines silver. The inventory list for the silver used on board the ss United States shows this marked as a “casserolette.” I suspect this was used for several different types of things, but mostly for table-side sauces like hollandaise, which is only good served hot. Traditionally, it is made table side to both ensure quality and for a little flare in the service. Imagine the head waiter working so carefully to get the sauce just right for the Duke and Duchess of Windsor’s eggs one morning on board. Measures about 6″ long from handle to rim. Made by International Silver and date marked 1952. Excellent condition. Comes to us from the estate of Dr. Sarah Forbes.
