Here is an invitation I think we all would have loved to have received. It is for Press reporters invited to luncheon in July 1949 to mark the return to service of the famous Ile De France. Also included is the excellent menu, and I do mean excellent. CGT clearly wanted to show you what French Line chefs were so rightly famous for. The menu is stuffed with such delicacies as Foie Gras, Channel Sole over zucchini, spring chicken, various french cheeses, and mysteriously deserts “Transat”. Some slight dirt but otherwise fine. This was a highlight for the French Line and truly marked their re-entry into the passenger trade.
