Product Description
If any of you have read a Fielding’s Guide from the 1950s, you know that Fielding had a bit of a problem with the Ile. He liked to tell it as he saw it, calling her a “34-year-old spinster” and letting us know that her post-war refit was not a particular success. In his 1958-1959 guide, he said: “Will be retired when the new 55-thousand-ton France replaces her in ’60, and it’s about time that she was either withdrawn or redecorated.” I have to say that I think the post-war Ile was quite well done. Of course, all I have to tell this by are photos and Fielding sailed on her, but this brochure makes her look spectacular. In French and running 28 page with 30 photos, many of them full page, this brochure is as close as we can get to sailing on this French Line matron.
