Product Description
Van Ryper started his ship-modeling business in 1933 in Martha’s Vineyard. The idea was straight forward — make handmade models in a very recognizable style. The name is famous, and the models are outstanding. But being 80-90 years old now, they are quite rare. This is a Van Ryper model of Canadian Pacific Line’s RMS Empress of Australia of 1922. It is in very good condition. The model was cherished by a collector all these years, and I was fortunate enough to buy his entire collection. In the original box from Van Ryper. Measures about 9.25″ long.
The CPR liner Empress of Australia had a long and fascinating life. Starting out as a German-built liner, she was sold to Canadian Pacific and was of great help in the huge Tokyo earthquake of 1923. She then went on to long and great service in WWII. Look her up! Fascinating life.
