Product Description
One of the rarest and nicest White Star china items for any collection. The three-lobed serving dish as used on Olympic and salvaged from Titanic. I suspect these were used as part of the ubiquitous hors d’oeuvre variés that was nearly always on the first-class dinner menu. The dish sports three thumb holes in the ring around the base so the steward could hold out the dish for you to chose your options. It gives me a great sense of what the passenger service was like in those days. Just think of all the work that went into making this lovely dish. The hand applied decoration alone is stunning. Because only the crew used these (and were not left on a passenger’s table), not too many made it off our favorite ship, and I doubt there are more than 25 out there including those recovered from Titanic. In very good condition with no chips, cracks, or staining. Some crazing. Sports the only maker’s mark on one of these dishes I’ve ever seen. Made by a less well-known supplier Bisto and measures about 10″ across. Makes your collection stands out!
