Product Description
Don’t you love collecting furniture from the RMS Queen Mary? Well, here is a fantastic chance to purchase a chair still sporting its “Original In Service Equipment Used Aboard the RMS Queen Mary” brass tag. Made from solid walnut with exquisite walnut crotch veneer on the inside back, this is one of the finest pieces of Cunard Line furniture I have ever offered, and it is certainly one of the rarest.
These chairs were first made for the RMS Queen Elizabeth. When the world’s largest ocean liner burned in Hong Kong Harbor in 1972, much of her original furnishings, fittings, and art were still on board and were sadly lost in the blaze.
Cunard’s habit of moving furniture from one ship to another saved this beautiful chair (and a number of others like it) from destruction in the fire. Some smoking room chairs from the Queen Elizabeth were transferred to the second-class Main Deck lounge on the Queen Mary when it became the “Flamenco Room.” One of the best-looking ocean-liner Art Deco chairs you will ever see.
This chair is sold in “as-found” condition. The restored chair shown is from my personal collection and is not for sale. It is an example of how the available chair will look when returned to its in-service appearance.
