Product Description
12-page brochure covering the French Line’s history from 1864 to 1939–thus their 75th anniversary. It is curious that they chose these dates to commemorate, but perhaps not so much when you think about it. The line was formed by 2 brothers in 1855. But it wasn’t until 1864 that it began sailing under the authority of the government and the auspices of the official mail contract. So I believe CGT was using this date as a starting point despite having been “founded” nine years earlier. Later the line would habitually use the more commonly accepted 1855. JF
