Product Description
Just acquired a pair of bar stools from the Midships Bar, which was installed in the famous Long Gallery circa 1964. The original Long Gallery is my favorite room on board! How about you? These stools are still in the original 1964 leather, which could be cleaned or quite easily/cheaply replaced. All I have done is to wipe the dust off. These are in the condition in which they were found after having been in storage in Virginia for 25 years (and in California for about 25 years before that).
The brass needs polishing, and the leather needs a good cleaning, of course, but they will come up a treat. See the last photo for how great they look when restored. (The restored ones are not for sale.) The two available, unpolished stools are being sold together, and the price is for the pair. As the lone first-class bar onboard after giving over of the OB to third class, these stools saw the who’s-who of first-class passengers sit on them. Just think of all the famous rear ends–Walt Disney, John Wayne, Bing Crosby, and so many others. You may never find another pair of bar stools from the Queen Mary at any price so grab them while you can!
To give a bit more information about the bar itself, the seller also sold me a large amount of the metal trim work and even bits of the sycamore molding from the bar (which sadly was destroyed). If the City of Long Beach were serious about making the ship profitable, they would put back the Midships Bar as a revenue opportunity. That said, if they ever decide to restore the bar, I would gladly donate the metal trim back to the ship. The sycamore pieces have some nice Queen Mary markings on the back for the bar. The trim and sycamore is not included with the bar stools.
