Product Description
Produced for the great ship’s launch on Tuesday, September 27, 1938. Over 75 years ago now! A gold tipped-in notice on the first page tells us “At the request of the Prime Minister, the King has cancelled his journey to Clydebank tonight.” War clouds were brewing that sadly broke out less than 12 months later and before this great ship could be finished.
Fittingly launched by the Queen for whom she was named, the QE became Cunard White Star’s flagship and the largest ship in the world for many decades even after her tragic demise in Hong Kong by arson in 1972.
Cunard was legitimately proud of the QE, and it shows in this high-quality brochure. Runs about 20 pages and filled with stunning photographs by Stewart Bale that have been professionally colorized. Many multi-page fold-outs and, of course, the obligatory double-page spread of her exterior in the center of the brochure. Tied with a silk cord. In very good condition and quite nice.
