Product Description
It is often tough as a dealer as well as a collector to decide what to keep and what to sell. The rarity of this Aquitania cigarette box makes me want to keep it. On the other hand, it is fun to update the site with rare and interesting items. That’s the feeling that must win out in my mission to bring you the best and most interesting collectables. This box is one of those items that make me pause, though. Only 200 of these boxes were made out of wood from the Aquitania when she was scrapped in 1950. A surviving Cunard memo about these boxes states that they were to be sent as gifts to the people and firms Cunard loved most. Among these was John Brown, Harland & Wolff, various long-serving employees, and of course, Cunard’s board of directors. With only 200 made 62 years ago I wonder how many are still around? At any rate they are quite rare, and I am glad they saved anything from her at all. In very good condition with a few scuffs and scratches that a good oil cleaning could mitigate. Original cedar lining. Measures about 7½” long x 4½” wide, x 2¾” tall.
