Product Description
When the Queen Mary entered service, the ashtrays used on board were marked with the ship’s name. Unfortunately, for Cunard, this meant that they were prime pickings for souvenir hunters. Very quickly, the company changed the ashtrays to read simply “Cunard White Star.” Cunard also realized that they could make a lot of money in the gift shops, selling the original “toilet” style ashtrays marked with the ship’s name in several different colors. This marbleized pink is one of the rarer colors. Marked “souvenir” on the bottom. In very nice condition, but the black on the lettering is slightly worn, but this can be easily fixed by the new owner. There is also a there is a crack on the bottom, but this can’t been seen from the top. Measures about 4.5″ from front to back.
What’s unusual, though, is that Cunard only made this type of named souvenir ashtray for the QM. They never make this for the other ships in the fleet. One wonders why…. SA
