Product Description

An absolutely amazing opportunity for one of you.  A solid brass light fixture from an alcove in the first-class smoking room of the Mauretania of 1907.  The detailing is magnificent.  Originally sold by ocean-liner dealer Ken Schultz in catalogue #63, April, 1997, Schultz purchased this from a Southampton family who bought four at the 1935 auction.  Has a label on the back with its provenance as well as a sale sticker from when it was sold again in 2004 by Christie’s in New York.  Comes with an original Schultz catalogue in which this light fixture makes an appearance.  There can’t be many of these around!
Most of Mauretania’s first-class interiors were designed by Harold Peto, and Cunard complained bitterly about the cost overages several times.  One can see why with the high-quality of this beautiful fixture.  Measures about 14.5″ x 12″ x 5.5″.  A rare chance to own a light fitting from the record-breaking liner herself.   Needs rewiring, but I will leave that to the new owner.  Some very old paint on the back of the fixture on one of the arms.  JF
