Product Description
One of N.Y.K.’s most famous ships, the Asama Maru was one of the finest liners to be built by this company. She entered service in 1929, and this sand-cast bell was given to passengers on the ship’s maiden voyage. Like so many other N.Y.K. ships, the Asama Maru was sunk by a US submarine on November 1, 1944, in the China Sea.
The bell is a model of the ship’s bell as well as the bells pilgrims wore on their belts when ascending Mt. Fuji to visit the Asama Shrine after which the ship is named. Bell is in excellent condition and stands just over 2″ tall.
