The English Lines, the German Lines, the Italian Lines and, of course, the French Line all used varying glasses for a wide variety of wines. Not the United States lines, it seems. How American is this? The USL had what the catalog calls a “general wine glass.” This seems to have done duty for reds, whites, desert wines, etc. Very practical and straight forward. Intriguingly, there must have been a large number of these on board, but this is the first time I have ever had one. Comes to us from the collection of a United States Lines manager, who visited the Big Ship after layup and removed this glass (and many others) himself. Measures about 4″ 2.5″ and in excellent condition.
