Depending on your taste, the France of 1912 may have been the most luxurious ship on the Atlantic — at least in the pre-war period. This 24-page brochure covers it all in first class. Witty text, a great cover, and interesting views combine to make this perhaps the second-best brochure for her.
I can’t decide which quote I like best: “Her proud nose cutting the waves off Sandy Hook Swiftly – joyously skimming Paris-ward” or “She isn’t as big as the biggest — but neither is the Ritz.” Others hop readily off the page too and are just as pertinent today as they were back then. “How many of us will enthusiastically inspect the ‘gym,’ make elaborate plans to take a daily work-out — and then, spend most of our time luxuriating in [the] smoking-room or deck chair!”
Only the 35-page hard-back pre-war brochure for her tops this one. Dates to about 1927, and I am happy to say mint condition.
