Completed in 1932 for the French Line, the Champlain was an intermediate liner used for the transatlantic run and also used for occasional cruising. Sadly, she struck a mine on June 17, 1940, and sank off La Pallice.
This is one of the large pre-World War II bronze medallions. Designed by Raymond Delamarre, it measures about 2½” across. One of the more difficult medals to find because she was only in service for a few years. Excellent condition with no issues of any kind and sporting its original box!
