These shell dishes were the catch alls for Cunard waiters and stewards. Many people try to assign a specific use for the chinaware, etc., used on board, but having talked to many former crewmen and looked at hundreds of archival photos, it isn’t as easy as one would think. For dishes, for example, were used for lemon slices, cashews, olives, and any other thing the stewards needed them for. As such, they are fairly common, but these are more desirable than most because they are the much earlier Cunard White Star versions made by Foley in the 1940’s. This is the larger size and measures about 5″ x 4.25″ and is in excellent condition.
