A superb invitation to the launch of Cunard’s 534. About 600 of these were printed at a cost of £179.6.11 After years of delays because of the Depression, the Queen Mary was finally launched on September 26, 1934, at 3:15 pm, in the presence of Their Majesties King George V and Queen Mary as well as tens of thousand of onlookers.
This invitation is made out to The Lord Advocate & Mrs. Normand. The front of the fold-open invitation has a rendering of the liner on the stocks and inside a rendering of her when completed. Also included is a separate insert sheet advising that this is with the compliments of Cunard White Star. The invitation is printed on very high-quality paper, and it measures about 9½” x 8½”. An interesting tipped-in note on the inside states that: “Owing to the restriction of space, it is regretted that it is not possible to provide seating accommodation.” Very interesting and very rare. If you love the Queen Mary (and who doesn’t?), this is something you would want to get framed and put up on your wall. Excellent condition!
