The proclamation issued to the passengers on the maiden voyage of the Queen Elizabeth in October, 1946. It measures about 10″ x 7¼. On great condition with some foxing.
This proclamation comes from the estate of Ron Johnson, who started his career with Cunard in 1926 and retired in 1971 as the Manager of New York Operations. I wonder what Ron was thinking at this time. The maiden voyage of Queen Elizabeth was not only the high point of Cunard’s history but also followed a day after the ground-shaking blow of the death of Sir Percy Bates, which reverberated throughout the company.
